The EMerald master has been selected for funding by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters 2023

Why another application?

EMerald is located at the core of the Green Deal Strategy of the European Commission. The EMerald master in georesources engineering aims to train a new generation of engineers with an entrepreneurial mind-set, capable of identifying and sustainably managing the mineral and metal
resources that are essential for the green energy transition.
The energy and environmental transition is a major challenge for securing the well-being of future generations. The EU has adopted a very proactive policy in this area. Clearly expressed in the Green Deal, this strategy must absolutely be supported by a strengthening of training in science and technology.

A well-established consortium since 2013:

The four universities (University of Liège (ULiège), University of Lorraine (UL), Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF)) have a long and unique tradition in integrating geosciences into engineering and they are all founding members of the world’s largest consortium on raw materials, namely the EIT Raw Materials knowledge innovation community. They also come from different geographic regions which enables the students to build a very large professional network at the end of the programme.

New associated partners:

The 3 associated partners will play a key role in providing seminars, internships/master theses and technical visits. The Geological Survey of
Finland (GTK) and the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology ( HIF) are at the cutting edge in the field of mineral resources
characterisation and have remarkable facilities allowing the development of new processes for the treatment and recycling of mineral materials and metals. As for the University of Zagreb, it will help EMerald gain more visibility in the Western Balkan region and, eventually become a full partner in the upcoming years.

When will the Erasmus Mundus scholarships be available?

Erasmus Mundus scholarships will be available for the 2024 application call (from Nov 2023- March 1st 2024).
